How Does McCain Handle A Crisis?

From Rachel Maddow (my new favorite MSNBC political show) comes this great summary of the McCain campaign.
When Russia was invading Georgia, McCain rushed in, we're all Georgians, let's rumble with Russia! As Hurricane Gustav bore down on New Orleans, he partially cancelled the Republican convention. When Obama fared well at his convention, McCain's response was to throw the ultimate hail Mary pass and choose Sarah Palin, an inexperienced governor, even though his entire campaign was built around criticizing his opponent's inexperience. Economy in chaos? Wall St. in turmoil? McCain now says let's fire the chairman of the SEC in the middle of the crisis. And now that there's a big proposed Wall St. bailout plan, McCain has out hail-Mary'd himself. Suspend the campaigns! post-pone the debate!
If you haven't watched Rachel, or even if you have, read this profile in today's NY Times. She is a breath of fresh air for progressives.

McCain Suspends The Election.

This could be The Onion news story tomorrow.
Saying the issues confronting America "are too important for partisan politics," Senator John McCain today suspended the 2008 presidential election and said he would assume the presidency on Monday to begin the hard work of governing.

"At this time of domestic and foreign peril, the American people deserve better than a nasty partisan campaign," McCain said in a statement today. "That is why I am suspending this race with Senator Obama and moving into the White House this weekend. My friends, it is time to put governing ahead of petty politics once and for all."

Deep Thought For The Day.

Is McCain's candidacy about anything more than a quest for power?  Power at any cost.

Sexism In Politics.

Talk about sexism in politics, here are three examples.
John McCain, to crowd: "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because her father is Janet Reno."
John McCain, to wife: "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt."
Female questioner at a McCain rally (re: Hillary Clinton): How do we beat the bitch?John McCain: Uproarious laughter.

The Big Enthusiasm Gap.

All the GOP B.S. about the mile high stadium event tonight is just confirmation of the lack of enthusiasm for their candidate.  Don't discount this in the way this election will go. They are having trouble filling 10,000 seats for the McCain/VP rally on Saturday that is designed to steal Obama's thunder.

A Continuing Arizona Tradition.

From the Governor of Arizona, Janet Napolitano.
Barry Goldwater ran for president, and he lost. Mo Udall ran for President, and he lost. Bruce Babbitt ran for president, and he lost. For this election cycle, that's one Arizona tradition I'd like to see continued."

Say What?

McCain can't answer the question about the race card. The man can't talk.

Word Of The Day.

hon·or·a·ble  [on-er-uh-buhl]
–adjective
1. in accordance with or characterized by principles of honor; upright: They were all honorable men.
2. of high rank, dignity, or distinction; noble, illustrious, or distinguished.
3. worthy of honor and high respect; estimable; creditable.
4. bringing honor or credit; consistent with honor
The media and even Obama use this word to describe John McCain. I have my doubts that it is appropriate.

The Elitist Celebrity Quiz.

Desperation has set in to the McCain campaign early.  Their ads against Obama are false and misleading and they are not able to present a positive message as to why people should vote for McCain so they swing wildly at Obama.  The latest effort to show his popularity as a negative is appalling.

Jake Taper from ABC has a quiz for you on candidate celebrity.
Which presidential candidate hosted Saturday Night Live (hint -- the musical guests were The White Stripes)?

Which one had cameos on "24" and "Wedding Crashers"?

Whose wife secretly got her pilot's license and owns a jet?

Who is pals with Warren Beatty?

Whose daughter is friends with Heidi from MTV's The Hills?

Whose wife once told Vogue, explaining the purchase of a 7th or 8th house, this one a beach house, "When I bought the first one, my husband, who is not a beach person, said, 'Oh this is such a waste of money; the kids will never go. Then it got to the point where they used it so much I couldn't get in the place. So I bought another one.”

Whose family credit cards have been known to ring up more than $500,000 in charges in one month?
Hint: Answer is the same to each question.

McCain Thinks He'll Lose.

From Politico.  Earlier this week McCain was in New Mexico and, perhaps inadvertently predicted his return to the Senate.  He was with Republican Senate candidate Steve Pearce and had this to say:
"Could I mention the presence of my friend, Congressman Steve Pearce, who I believe will be joining me in the United States Senate?
Good! McCain finally says something that is honest.
