The Appalachian Vote.

This is sad but, I am sure, true for a small portion of white America. Now you understand why the McCain campaign is trying its desperate last minute tactic of painting Obama as "foreign" and allowing surrogates to use his middle name when introducing him.

UPDATE: And, here's another sad story courtesy of AmericaBlog.

It's not just Appalachia. All of my relatives have spouted out this myth about Obama being a Muslim just because of his middle name. So many of the American people are just plain ignorant...

I'm not certain which is more frightening, that she is allowed to vote or that she is allowed to breed.

Just another couple of proud moments for America? Americans?
Mercy.

Hillbillies make me so mad. Thank goodness there aren't any ignorant, misinformed, racist white people anywhere else. Maybe the government ought to just round these "sons of the soil" up and sterilize them?

She obviously boozed up or on Oxycontin. Not to say she's atypical, since about two-thirds voted for McCain in Appalachia. The repugs are geniuses at getting those poor, ignorant (not stupid -- ignorant) people to vote against their own interests. All you have to do is look at WaPo's accounts of the Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps in Wise County -- where, by the way, one side of my family came from. They started as prosperous German immigrants in the 1730s and descended into folk like these. In the Civil War, wealthy slaveholders whipped them up (or into!) fighting for them, and the beat goes on . . .
